CHANDIGARH, Nov 25: The rendition conformed to the mood of the occasion and the serenity of the venue. The notes that flowed from Harvinder Sharma’s sitar had a soothing effect on a person tired after a day of hectic schedule.
The recital was in memory of Jitender Kumar, former lecturer of music at the Mehr Chand Mahajan Dayanand Anglo Vedic College, Sector 36, at the small auditorium within the premises of the Ramakrishna Mission Bhawan.
As the night set in, Harvinder’s Baageshwari lulled one into a reflective mood. The “alaap” saw the calibre of the artist, who has performed at some of the country’s famous music festivals such as the Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan in Jalandhar, emerge in clear hues. It was here that one heard the sitar without disturbance as afterwards the tabla played by Pawan Verma somehow lacked finesse. The “taal” seemed too loud for the occasion, the somberness of which was maintained again by Harvinder through his bhajan that wound up the evening.
