Three days after the settlement with brother Mukesh, Anil Ambani came down to Delhi to meet key ministers and officials, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Earlier in the day, Anil met Finance Minister P Chidambaram in his North Block office and home minister Shivraj Patil at his residence. Anil Ambani’s one-to-one meeting with Chidambaram lasted for about 45 minutes, but he refused to answer reporters’ queries, and said they should come to Mumbai to talk to him.
Anil also met Patil at the latter’s residence and was with him for about 30 minutes.
There was also a meeting with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
After an intense battle of nerves with his elder brother, Anil secured Reliance Energy and Reliance Capital besides Reliance Infocomm as per the deal.
Anil also met IT and telecommunications minister Dayanidhi Maran.
Even as both Maran and Anil refused to comment on their 50-minute-long discussion, it is widely believed that the operations of Infocomm, the country’s largest private wireless telecom operator with 11.52 million subscribers, figured in the talks. Infocomm has already paid Rs 150 crore to the government for re-routing international calls as local ones. Besides, it has paid Rs 182 crore to BSNL for non-payment of ADC levy.
