In view of the threat from militants on Independence Day, the authorities today suspended the Amarnath yatra, even as heavy rush forced authorities to suspend the Vaishno Devi yatra. In view of the threat to security, authorities also suspended the yatra from Baltal to the cave shrine.The Amarnath yatra has been suspended for three days and the next batch of pilgrims is scheduled to set out from Jammu for the cave shrine on August 17.Security forces were reported to have intensified patrolling along the route of the yatra., especially between Katra and Bhawan.
