MUMBAI, May 9: Opener Guy de Alwis’ stylish 72 (51b, 11×4, 2×6) steered a Sri Lankan Veterans XI to a three-wicket win over their Indian counterparts in a 30-overs-a-side exhibition match at the Khar Gymkhana here today.

The match was squeezed in after two matches of the five-match series scheduled on May 6 and 7 at the Barbourne Stadium were cancelled.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, India rattled up 224 before being bowled out in 30 overs. Left-handed opener Suru Nayak topscored with 60 (86b, 7×4, 1×6).

De Alwis and Devapriya (46) provided a solid platform adding 109 runs for the second wicket which saw Lanka coast to an easy victory with tree wickets to spare.

The third match of the veterans’ overs-limited series would be held at Panvel, Navi Mumbai tomorrow.

Brief Scores: India 224 in 30 overs — (Suru Nayak 60, Ashok Malhotra 39, Sandeep Patil 34, R Madurasinghe 3-22) lost to Sri Lanka 225-7 in 27 overs (Guy de Alwis 72, Devapriya 46, Asoka de Silva 40 n.o; Salim Durrani 3-4,Sanjeev Sharma 2-36) by three wickets.
