PUNE, Sept 20: Pune Municipal Corporation standing committee member Shivajirao Kshirsagar has suggested the construction of an alternative road, from Wadgaonsheri village panchayat to Kalyani Nagar, which will reduce traffic congestion on Nagar Road.
In a press statement issued here, Kshirsagar has said the alternate road will help prevent the large number of accidents which at present take place on Nagar Road due to traffic congestion. On this road the death toll was 20 persons in 1996 and 22 persons in 1997, he said adding that by July end this year, 33 accidents had taken place, he pointed out. At present, there is a 60 feet wide road which runs from Kalyanai Nagar to Shastri Nagar.
If the same road is extended upto Wadgaonsheri, it will benefit about 1.5 lakh persons residing in Wadgaonsheri, Somanth Nagar, Kharadi and other areas, Kshirsagar pointed out.
