The uneasy relationship between CM Mulayam Singh Yadav and Governor T.V. Rajeswar took another hit today. For the third successive day, Mulayam took potshots at Rajeswar, without naming him, this time over his Independence Day speech advising youths to learn English if they wanted to do well in life.
Speaking at a workshop to mark Dushyant Kumar’s anniversary at Hindi Sansthan, Mulayam, whose love for Hindi is well-known, said: ‘‘Hindi suffered a disgrace this year on August 15 when people were told that they should learn English for earning a livelihood. I will not tolerate an attack on Hindi or any other Indian language.’’
The relationship between Mulayam and Rajeswar has taken a turn for the worse recently with the Governor sitting on a government ordinance setting up an Urdu university.
On Monday, Mulayam said: ‘‘We will not wait for the Governor’s nod on the Urdu university ordinance as the government can get it passed by convening a special session of the Assembly.’’ He hinted that there was a conspiracy behind the delay in Raj Bhavan clearing the ordinance and said he knew the leaders responsible. But, even if it is cleared by the Assembly, the ordinance still has to be cleared by Rajeswar.
The Congress has also strongly objected to the chief minister’s continued tirade against the Governor.
