As Akali Dal MPs staged a walkout the minute he rose to speak, Union Minister Jagdish Tytler denied that he had played any role in the anti-Sikh riots and said his name was never mentioned in any FIR related to the cases. Akali Dal MPs, in keeping with their resolve to boycott ministers associated with the 1984 riots, walked out at the beginning of Question Hour when Tytler — filling in for Sunil Dutt — began his reply on a question related to the Ministry of Sports.

Tytler said his name had been dragged into the riots for no reason. ‘‘So many years my name has been taken with regard to Sikh riots…Not once has my name been mentioned in any FIR…for years, I have been maligned politically,’’ he said.
