The Santacruz police on Friday produced IndiGo airlines co-pilot Arjun Menon before the Bandra magistrate’s court which remanded him to police custody till June 19.
On Thursday, Menon was arrested on charges of abetting the suicide of Sucheta Anand (25), an air hostess with the same airline. Sucheta’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hotel room in Santacruz on Saturday.
Arjun’s father Balchandra Menon, who was present in the court on Friday, denied that his son was in a relationship with the deceased. “My son is innocent… Arjun knew Sucheta but they were just friends and there was no relationship between them. He is being falsely implicated. The matter is sub-judice,” said Balchandra Menon.
However, investigators said that the exchange of text messages between the couple on the day Sucheta committed suicide is enough evidence to prove that they had an affair. “Sucheta had stopped replying to Menon’s messages after he left the hotel room on Saturday evening. There are messages like ‘why don’t you reply to my messages or answer my calls’ sent by Menon to Sucheta,” said a police officer.
Amarendra Pargaonkar, Arjun Menon’ advocate, said: “The remand application merely mentioned that text messages exchanged between the accused and the deceased… The defence has not been intimated about the contents of the messages so far.”
