The All India Radio earned a revenue of Rs 3.8 crore through broadcast of India-Australia Test Cricket Series and the Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series involving the two countries and Sri Lanka.
The revenue was earned from the package of tours from December 26, 2007 to March 7 this year, Minister for Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi told Lok Sabha in a written reply on Tuesday.
He said as per the guidelines of The Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Act, 2007, the right holder has to share live signal with Prasar Bharati and revenue earned is to be shared in the ratio of 75 per cent to the right holder and 25 per cent to Prasar Bharati.
Accordingly, Prasar Bharati earned Rs 1.5 crore as revenue through telecast of India-Bangladesh cricket series (between May 10-29, 2007), while right holder Nimbus earned Rs 4.5 crore as revenue.
For the India-Ireland cricket series telecast between June 23 to July 3, 2007, Nimbus earned Rs 7.6 crore, while Prasar Bharati earned Rs 2.5 crore. For the India-England cricket series (July 19-September 8, 2007), ESPN earned Rs 10.3 crore as revenue while Prasar Bharati got Rs 3.4 crore.
Nimbus earned Rs 26.4 crore as revenue through telecast of India-Australia cricket series (September 29-October 17, 2007), while Prasar Bharati’s share was Rs 8.8 crore.
For the India-Australia Twenty20 cricket match (October 20, 2007), Nimbus earned Rs 2.3 crore while the public broadcaster earned Rs 77,50,000.
Nimbus garnered Rs 60.9 crore as revenue through telecast of India-Pakistan cricket series (November 5-December 12), while Prasar Bharati got Rs 20.3 crore.
