Congress held a meeting of the screening committee for Rajasthan today, to decide the final list of candidates for the coming Assembly elections.
While selecting candidates, the screening committee will adhere to the set of guidelines issued by the AICC. It is learnt that following these, the party has been able to finalise about 50 candidates, some of whom are sitting MLAs.
Over 25 women candidates could be in the fray this time, double the number of women who contested the last elections. According to party guidelines, women candidates should be given preference, if they are found to be winning. Similarly, the party has also set an age limit for the selection of candidates.
Another meeting of the screening committee is scheduled for tomorrow, when a few more names might be cleared.
