GUWAHATI, DEC 27: The Asom Gana Parishad AGP is on the verge of another split with a new faction under the banner of Trinamool Gana Parishad TGP being formed by dissident leader Atul Bora and Pulakesh Barua.

Talking to newspersons here, senior dissident leader Atul Bora, under suspension from the AGP, on Sunday said the party would be formally launched on February 8.

Former AGP general secretary and former speaker Pulakesh Barua was now contacting the grassroot workers in a bid to save the party from the 8220;autocracy8221; of its president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.

Bora, who was the PWD minister till he opposed the leadership of Mahanta and got suspended, said he would join hands with any national and regional party to defeat Mahanta. This would be the third split in the AGP since its inception. The most serious one was the Natun Asom Gana Parishad in 1991, which later merged again with the parent party. In 1996, Mahanta8217;s bete-noire Bhrigu Kumar Phukan took the lead in the formation of Asom JatiyaSanmilani, which could not erode any base of the AGP.
