PUNE, May 13: Agashe Academy won by a thrilling one-run margin against Saras XI to advance into the next round of the MCA organised under-19 Mahajan Trophy cricket tournament today.

Electing to bat, Agashe boys could not survive for too long on the wicket against a good bowling line-up by Saras XI. Their highest run-getter was Sameer Joshi who remained unbeaten at 34. Manmol Sidhaye was among the most successful bowler for Saras as he scalped three wickets for 18 runs.

However, Agashe Academy lads struck back on time with a good fielding and bowling display. Ashwin Deshpande claimed four vital wickets for 11 runs, thus restricting Saras XI just two runs short of a win and one run short of the target. It was only Amit Misal, who fought a lone battle for Saras XI, but once he too went back to pavilion scoring 45 runs, the entire team crumbled to pieces.

Meanwhile, the under-16 Ganla Trophy tournament played alongside saw Ingulkar XI beat South City by 81 runs, New English School defeat Cricket Foundation XI by 17 runs, and Gunjal Academy go down to Club of Maharashtra by seven wickets.

In the Mathurawala Trophy for the under-14 section, Stadium Club lost by nine wicket to Shivajians Club while Club of Maharashtra lost to Poona Club by four wickets. Meanwhile PYC Gymkhana boys carved out a narrow two runs victory as they restricted their rivals S P College to a total of 136 runs against a target of 138, which was set by them while batting earlier.
