After the Salman Khan-Aishwarya Rai tapes, the Mumbai police is once again knocking on the doors of the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory, Chandigarh, for a voice analysis. They have sent the voice samples of Vicky Malhotra, a trusted lieutenant of Chhota Rajan, to the lab.

A team of Mumbai police reached Chandigarh on Sunday with a suitcase carrying 107 audio cassettes recorded by the Mumbai Police. Sources say the cassettes contain recorded conversations between Malhotra and Rajan and their other associates.

Malhotra, who is lodged at the Arthur Road jail, was arrested on July 11 by a Mumbai Police team from Delhi when he was with a former IB chief. His accomplice Fareed Tanasha was also nabbed.

The Mumbai police had been desperately hunting for Malhotra for over a decade.

Officials confirmed that Dr. C P Singh, who conducted the voice analysis of the Salman-Ash tapes, will analyse the Malhotra tapes too.

Malhotra is said to be involved in smuggling illegal weapons to Rajan’s men in India as well as abroad and is considered to be a sharpshooter. Malhotra, who allegedly has strong links with some Intelligence Bureau officials, had been carrying out operations against the Dawood Ibrahim gang.

‘‘His movement was tracked down in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, China and various parts of India including Kolkata and Delhi. Finally, we managed to nab him in Delhi on the basis of a tip-off,’’ said a Mumbai police officer. While the Mumbai police has also given Malhotra’s original voice samples to the CFSL, officials here say that the report could take at least three months.
