Arriving here after suspending Madanlal Khurana from the party, BJP president L.K. Advani skirted the campaign against Narendra Modi, saying his government was a ‘‘good example of sound governance and honesty’’.

‘‘I have heard nothing but good about Modi government’s functioning,’’ Advani said, dedicating Vastrapur Lake to the public. While giving his stamp of approval to the Modi government, Advani said he knew whenever the state faced a crisis it emerged much stronger.

Party sources indicated Advani might call on former CM and chief dissident Keshubhai Patel, to enquire about his ailing wife.

After arriving in Ahmedabad, Advani had a brief word with Modi at the Circuit House and drove straight to the function organised by Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority.

Rebel MLA and former home minister Gordhan Zadafiya, Naroda MLA Maya Kodnani and Jitu Waghel were present but many rebel MLAs chose to remain absent despite being in Ahmedabad. Ellisbridge MLA Bhavin Seth and Asarwa MLA Pradipsinh Jadeja did not turn up.
