AIADMK leaders at the party’s general council meeting held here today pleaded with their leader J. Jayalalithaa to enter the national political scene.

There is a vacuum and dearth of good leaders in Delhi and ‘‘the time is ripe for Jayalalithaa to enter the national political scene’’, P.H. Pandian, leader of the AIADMK Parliamentary Party, told the meeting.

Pandian said that except leaders of the BJP and Congress, most senior leaders of other parties were keen that the Chief Minister shift her base to the national Capital.

Some speakers at the function also suggested that the party should give a helping hand to functionaries at the lower level. ‘‘Though you can’t make everyone in the party an MLA or MP or Minister, you should consider satisfying those at the lower level,’’ they said.

Others felt that since the party’s strength had been clearly established in all the polls held recently, it was better it entered the political arena ‘‘alone’’ in the future elections.

The general council, that is meeting for the first time since the party assumed office in May last year, would continue its delibrations tomorrow.
