NEW DELHI, SEPT 25: A Delhi court today issued summons to former Tripura Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar in a case relating to the admissions scam in the Tripura Medical College. It also granted bail to Gurdial Singh, Tripura’s former resident commissioner in Delhi, and three students.
Special Judge V.B. Gupta granted bail to accused Singh, Sonia Lama, Gita Banik and Bipul Kumar Rakshit on personal bonds of Rs 50,000 and sureties of the like amount. The court, however, directed the accused not to leave the country without its prior permission and asked them to surrender their passports to the CBI.
Majumdar was issued summons to appear on October 31 after his counsel informed the court that he had not yet received any summons from the court.
Another accused, former health minister of the state, Kanshi Ram Reang, who did not appear before the court despite receiving summons, was granted exemption for today.
The CBI had alleged that Majumdar, Reang and Singh had abused their official position as public servants and showed undue favour to the accused students in their admission to various medical colleges in the country against seats allotted to the state from the central pool during 1990-91.
