After over a month, the Block Development Officer of Binpur entered Lalgarh on Wednesday to distribute relief material among the villagers.

The officer, Chinmoy Mondal, visited remote Chotopelia and Dalilpur Chak villages along with block workers and talked to the protestors, who had been continuing their blockade since November 7. The tribal leaders requested him to restore the public distribution system in the villages which has been affected for the past one month.

District Magistrate N S Nigam said the supply was affected because of the roadblock. The situation in Lalgarh is normal now. But the block office in remote areas will take another few days to function normally. The officials of the block health department also assessed the situation in the villages.

The deadlock was resolved on Sunday after a meeting between the district administration and the tribal leaders. Chhatradhar Mahato, a local tribal leader, said the administration wanted to hand over relief materials like rice, blankets to them, but relief should be distributed by the gram panchayat. On Wednesday, the block administration handed over the relief to the panchayat.

R D Meena, principal secretary, Backward Classes Welfare Department, meanwhile, wrote to 11 women of Dalilpur village to appear for an inquiry on December 15.

The women had alleged that the police had misbehaved with them during the raid after the Salboni blast. The meeting will take place in the Circuit House of Midnapore town on December 15 and 16.
