NAGPUR, MAY 18: Residential premises of former Nagpur University Assistant Registrar Yadavrao Kohachade - whose arrest led to the unearthing of the fake marklist and revaluation scam in the varsity - were searched by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday. Earlier in the day, the ACB booked Kohachade on charges of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Bureau had undertaken investigation of Kohachade's assets immediately after he was trapped offering a bribe of Rs eight lakh to Sitabuldi PSI Anil Lokhande on June 19, 1999. Kohachade's property includes his official residence in the Law College Campus, his flat at Chintamani Apartments, Pratap Nagar, and his house at village Jamni in Deoli tehsil of Wardha district. The raids were conducted simultaneously at all the places and the ACB is reported to have recovered documents giving details of property and assets. The raids on the official and private residence of Kohachade yielded details of property worth Rs 9.69 lakh, the ACB has said. The inquiry revealed that Kohachade owned property worth Rs 20.24 lakh which includes house, flat, agricultural land, and household goods. The ACB said it was found that taking into account the earnings of Kohachade since 1981, when he joined service, property worth Rs 19.98 lakh was disproportionate to his income. Kohachade too has not been able to provide any satisfactory evidence to prove the source of the income against which the property has been acquired, the ACB has added. The raids on Kohachade's properties in and around the city were on till Wednesday night and officials were verifying the documents recovered in the raids. Kohachade's interrogation following his arrest, revealed names of those involved in the fake marklists and revaluation scam. These names virtually constituted the Who's Who of Nagpur University and those involved with its functioning.Kohachade was granted bail three months after his arrest. Even after his release, the court directed him to stay in Mumbai to allow police to conduct their investigation. An independent probe was held into the affair by the police leading to arrests of acting Registrar and Controller of Exams, P B Mistry, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Hemant Thakre, Acting Registrar Sham Kalamkar.
