Hot on the trail of suspected extremist elements in the state, the Q Branch of the State Police have arrested a Sri Lankan national who was involved in procuring and smuggling of arms for the LTTE, from Chennai on Wednesday. Thambianna alias Daniel, from Killinochi in Sri Lanka, has been remanded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, four Lankan nationals, who were allegedly involved in smuggling sophisticated equipment for communication and tracking, were arrested at Ramanathapuram, leading to the seizure of a large quantity of such equipment.

Police sources said a satellite phone, global positioning system devices, life jackets, military fatigue and pistol covers were recovered from Ramanan, Vighnesh, Neethiran and Sivaraman, all hailing from Jaffna.

In another development related to the busting of the terror module, the jailed leader of Jihad Committee, Ali Abdulla, said to be the mastermind behind the plot to orchestrate blasts across the State, was taken into custody for further investigation into the conspiracy.
