Skeletons of four children were found in a rice mill belonging to senior Congress leader Jagmeet Brar this evening, the police said, but Brar’s personal assistant Happy Khera said the mill was abandoned four years ago.
The local police said they are assuming that the skeletons are of three girls and one boy who have been missing since November 12. Muktsar police had registered a case a day later, following complaints by their parents, daily-wage workers.
The children — identified as Achki (9), Ratni (14), Puran (9), Gathia (10) — used to supplement family income by picking waste.
The police found their bodies when they set up barricades in connection with the coming Maghi festival. When some policemen went to the rice mill nearby, they discovered the skeletons. The legs of the girls were reportedly tied with rope and, as per preliminary reports, the eldest girl might have been raped, too.
Muktsar SSP Nageshwar Rao said he has summoned a team of forensic experts to assist in investigations.
