A suicide bomber blew his explosive-laden vehicle near a security check-post on Monday killing four paramilitary personnel and injuring eight others in Pakistan’s North Frontier Province, reeling under a wave of such attacks.
The bomber targeted a check-post in Thal town, some 185 kilometres southwest of Peshawar, the provincial capital, at 9.30 am (local time), the police said.
They said four security personnel were killed in the attack but army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad confirmed 2 deaths.
The check-post was located along the main road between Thal and Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan tribal region.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. But such strikes are blamed on local pro-Taliban militants.
Security forces cordoned off the road after the attack which created panic among the people.
A spate of suicide bombings have rattled Pakistan’s north-west since the security forces stormed a mosque housing Islamic militants in Islamabad last month and local Taliban scrapped a peace deal with the government in Waziristan.
Two security personnel were killed and four others injured when gunmen fired rockets at a security check post in North Waziristan yesterday, prompting the government to retaliate.
At least 15 militants were killed as helicopter gunships attacked their hideouts, Major General Waheed Arshad.
