Three alleged LTTE operatives were arrested from the city suburbs on Tuesday by the Q Branch of Tamil Nadu Police on charges of procuring equipment and materials for the outfit. Uma Ramanan, 23, and Amalan, 21, suspected members of the LTTE procurement module, were picked up from Tirumangalam in a late night raid. The police also seized potassium nitrate powder and spark plugs from their house. The duo failed to justify the presence of the materials during interrogation.Ramanan and Amalan were booked under Unlawful Activities Act (Prevention), 1967, and were sent to the Puzhal Central Prison. In the evening, another Lankan Tamil, Selvakumar, was arrested for allegedly attempting to supply communication equipment to the rebels. The arrests follow a recent move to crack down on LTTE operatives by the state police.According to police, Selvakumar was smuggling gadgets from an electronic equipment shop in the city suburb to Killinochi for the outfit’s intelligence wing. The kingpin, Tambianna alias Daniel of Killinochi, suspected of coordinating the procurement of communication and other equipment and explosives for LTTE, was arrested from Chennai last week.
