22-year-old escapes from lock-up

NEW DELHI, April 20: A 22-year-old youth who was arrested a couple of days ago by the Tilak Marg police managed to escape from the police lock up on Sunday afternoon. Suresh had been arrested on April 18 under Section 411 IPC (dishonestly receiving stolen property) for possession of Maruti car beadings. He was to have been produced in court yesterday. Suresh expressed a desire to go to the toilet and was escorted there by a Delhi Home Guard constable. When he did not come out after a long time, the constable raised an alarm. When the door was forced open, there was no sign of Suresh.

An alert was sounded and a hunt has been launched to arrest the youth. District police officials confirmed that the investigating officer in the case, a head constable, and another constable have been suspended and an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
