NEW DELHI, May 1: The Malviya Nagar police suspect that 58-year-old Subhinder Chand Khanna was was murdered in his house by two acquaintances. Investigations have revealed that two youths had called on Khanna around 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the day he is believed to have been murdered. The chowkidar at Kapoor’s C-58, Malviya Nagar, apartment has told the police that two youths one dark, well-built and another fair and much shorter had called up Khanna on the intercom from the main gate.

Following this, Khanna came out in his balcony and seemed to recognise the youths who then went inside. The chowkidar said that he did not notice them coming out, at least till 8 p.m, when he left for dinner. The chowkidar also said that he had never seen the youths before.

Several persons, believed to be Khanna’s acquaintances, have been questioned but no one has been arrested so far. Among those who have been called to the police station, is a computer engineer, Lalit Kumar. He was questioned at length because of his infrequent visits to Khanna’s house.

A senior police official said: “If the youths have killed him, there is no question of forced entry. He knew them and let them in. Once they killed him, they must have pulled the door shut behind them and walked away. They ransacked the house probably to mislead us.”

Investigations have also revealed that Khanna owed money to several persons.
