MUMBAI, January 29: The L T Marg police arrested two persons on Thursday in connection with the murder of former Shiv Sena Shakha Pramukh Kishore Paste alias Patya at Bhuleshwar last month.

Praveen Shivshankar Mhatre alias Chapya (38) and Mahesh Laxman Londe were picked up after a brawl in Nallasopara. Interrogation revealed their involvement in Paste’s murder.

On the evening of December 19, 1998 the Sena activist was in his office with his wife’s uncle and his partner in the hotel business when four men barged in. Chikna Babu alias Shashikant Sagwekar, Mhatre, Ashok Yashwant Bhaste alias Kawa and Nilesh Tiwari had threatned Paste’s assistants Jagannath Nevse and Sachin Raikar who were keeping watch outside.

While Chikna fired four rounds from his revolver at Paste, Chapya assaulted him with a chopper before their escape. Paste who was seriously injured later succumbed to his injuries.

That the duo were a prize catch, the Nallasopara police did not realise when they picked up Chapke and Londhe.During interrogation, Chapke broke down and revealed about his involvement in the murder of Paste. The L T Marg police were immediately informed. Londe has been accused of sheltering Chapke.

The duo were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate M R Puranik at the 28th court today. While Chapke was remanded to police custody, Londe had been remanded to judical custody upto February 10, 1999.
