
CHANDIGARH, May 3: Host 127 Battalion, Chandigarh and Group Centre, Jalandhar entered the final of the Inter-Battalion Punjab and Chandigarh Operational Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) handball championship, which is being played at the DAV School in Sector 8.
In the semifinals today, GC, Jalandhar thrashed GC, Pinjore 21-12 while 127 Battalion got the better of GC, Gurgaon 10-1. Gurgaon conceded the match after ten minutes of play.
For Jalandhar Harneek Singh and Balbir Singh got most of the points.
127 Battalion players were far better than the opponents in all the departments of the game and raced to a 8-1 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest.
Satpal was the main architect of the team’s victory in the match today, who got five points.
The final will be played tomorrow at 5 p.m.
FBB Club in final
Flankers Ball Badminton Club-22 and Shivalik Public School-41 with 10 and 8 points, respectively, entered the final of the girls section in the fifth Chandigarh State ball badminton championships, which is being held at SPS-41 premises. The matches were played on round robin league basis in both the sections.
In the boys section Government Model School-33 and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School-35, will clash in the final, which will be played tomorrow.
In a play off match SPS-41 will face MDAV-22 in the boys section. GMSSS-21 and GMSSS-37 will fight for third place in the girls group.
Vimal to lead
Vimal Bali will lead the Chandigarh team in the 22nd National shooting ball championship to be held at Jaipur from May 7 to 9.
Other members of the team are RR Yadav, Udesh Sharma, Naresh, Manvir Singh, Basant Singh, Prince, Mukhtiar Singh and RK Loomba.
Ram Krishan and OP Malhotra will accompany the team as manager and coach, respectively.
Bridge tourney
Chandigarh Bridge Association will organise duplicate bridge tournament on May 16, at the Central Club in Sector 9. According to a press release, entries close at 9.30 a.m. on May 16 at the venue.
