CHANDIGARH, June 4: Eleven alleged lottery dealers, accused of trading banned lotteries, were granted bail today. They were directed to be released after furnishing personal bonds of Rs 10,000 each along with sureties of the like amount.
While seven accused — Dinesh Kumar, Bharat Singh, Balwinder, Sanjeev Kumar, Ajay Sethi, Vineet Chopra and Sudharshan Kumar — were granted bail by UT Chief Judicial Magistrate Sant Parkash, three others — Som Nath, Kulwant and Dhyan Singh — were released on bail by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) (JMIC) Tejwinder Singh. Another accused, Sat Pal, was granted bail by JMIC Jasbir Singh.
They were booked under the Lottery Regulation Ordinance after a series of raids were carried out all over the city by the anti-gambling cell of the CIA staff on June 2. According to the prosecution, the raids were conducted after the ordinance banning single digit lotteries was received.
