The Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will launch a “Preamble campaign” across the state from August 15, party’s state president Sunil Tatkare said on Tuesday.

The move comes months ahead of the Assembly elections in Maharashtra, in which the party hopes to improve its performance after its poor show in the Lok Sabha polls. During the Lok Sabha campaigning, the Opposition parties had claimed that the NDA alliance, which NCP is a part of, will attempt to alter the Constitution.

Sunil Tatkare announced that all party offices across Maharashtra will prominently display large planks of the Preamble. “As part of this historic campaign, the NCP will organise sanvidhan sabhas (Constitutional Assemblies) at all its offices across the state. NCP ministers, MPs, MLAs, district and block unit presidents, and leaders of our frontal organizations will lead and address these sanvidhan sabhas,” Tatkare said.

NCP president Ajit Pawar will address the “sanvidhan sabha” in Pune, national working president Praful Patel will lead sessions in Gondia and Bhandara districts, and Sunil Tatkare will oversee the event in Mumbai.

When asked if the campaign was a response to the allegations made during the Lok Sabha elections, Tatkare replied, “The false narrative created by the opposition is now a thing of the past. The public has recognized it as such. The support and affection we are receiving during our Jan Sanman Yatra affirm that the people stand with us.”

The party has instructed its leaders to mobilise crowds and engage with people from various walks of life during these rallies.
