Mumbai Confidential: ‘Unsatisfactory’

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has rapped the Maharashtra government for its 'unsatisfactory' delivery of public services to the citizens, under the Right to Service Act portal.

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has rapped the Maharashtra government for its ‘unsatisfactory’ delivery of public services to the citizens, under the Right to Service Act portal. It was one of the highlighted achievements by Devendra Fadnavis (during 2014-19), and was claimed to be a pro-people step. Despite this, the state has had no full-time state chief commissioner for the Right to Service Act since January 2022, with no retired bureaucrat willing to take up the challenge of improving the functioning of this initiative.

Creating A Flutter

Over four meetings between CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe, who is still with Uddhav Thackeray, created a flutter during the Budget session. Amidst floating rumours of Gorhe being persuaded to join the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, she was quick to put them to rest saying meetings does not mean she is changing her party.

Even as his term as the state chief secretary is to get over, Manu Kumar Shrivastava’s name is already making the rounds as the new state Information Commissioner. Shrivastava, however, has chosen to make no comments. He maintains that he has not heard what journalists have heard.
