1) In a major relief for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed his conviction in a criminal defamation case over his 2019 remarks on the Modi surname, stating that the trial court in Surat had not given reasons for awarding the maximum punishment of two years.

This decision may now pave the way for his return to the Lok Sabha where he represented Wayanad in Kerala.
