While you are going through your mid-week stuck-at-the-same-old-job blues, centuries ago there were people who were catching rats and planning orgies! The second one may not sound as unpleasant, but imagine if your daily wages depended on how many cats you fed in aday, or simply reading out the news/other books at the top of your voice to people, or being a Pied Piper without the flute! While our complaints around jobs are never-ending, it might perk you up to know that at least there are some jobs you no longer need to consider as career options. Here are seven jobs from the good ol' bygone days that do not exist any more. But, maybe there might be one or two we'd like to bring back as well! LECTOR: This job required factory workers to read out loud, the news of the day and other literary works to other employees. BOWLING PIN SETTER: There were people who manually set the pins at a bowling station, before they were set automatically by machines. CAT MEAT DELIVERERS: Let's just say, times were better for cats that belonged to wealthy owners, back then. There were people assigned to pick meat from slaughterhouses and deliver them to cats. ORGY PLANNERS: Ancient Rome took party planning a notch higher when there were men assigned to plan in detail every aspect of orgies, including updating the guest list and menus! BARBER-SURGEON: Though there are still barbers around, in earlier times these men took complete charge of your head, if there was hair on it, then better. These men trimmed hair, removed lice and even administered blood work! There are parts of India where such multi-talented barbers still exist, though they are undoubtedly a rarity. BODY-SNATCHERS: These men who were colloquially known as resurrectionists, dug graves and pulled out dead bodies from them, to send them to medical schools. Now, there are morgues, or people just donate their bodies before dying! RAT CATCHERS: These men were like Pied Piper. They however, lived a less-than-fairy-tale life. They had to spend days catching rats, minus the pipe! Although all of us have our own just reasons to go off on a vacation, away from work, it is safe to say, that our jobs come nowhere near in competing with these, on the bizarre scale.
