Talk about wearing different hats and all at the same time. That’s how you can describe Rupin Suchak, a renowned celebrity interior and production designer. Rupin, with a career spanning 14 years, has brought many commercial and television film sets to life including Kareena Kapoor Khan-Arjun Kapoor’s Ki and Ka, and SRK’s den in Dear Zindagi. Other than these, he has also done Sonakshi Sinha’s Juhu pad, R Balki’s office, Alia Bhatt and Huma Qureshi’s office, Ranveer Singh’s gym van (and new vanity van), and Pooja Hegde’s apartment to name a few.

“I like to make their spaces their homes, and not just spaces that look good. I aim for the fact that when they enter my spaces, they should instantly be able to call it their own den. It should be a reflection of their personalities. Each one has its specific likes and vibe. I study that and make sure I create some of that with my own sensibilities. I also respect their privacy and stay away from intruding into their private lives,” described Rupin, who is also designing Ranveer’s new vanity van.

He recalled designing for Alia which he described as “lovely moments”. “She is always absolutely beautiful to work with. I remember the Zoom calls we used to have during the lockdown when, Ranbir, Alia used to jam over ideas. Some of the first visits after lockdown when funky face masks used to be a subject of discussion,” recollected Rupin, 37.

On the basic foundation rules of design that he follows, the interior designer shared, “I have a distinct sense of colour and wacky design approach that one can sense in all my designs. I always like to carry that forward.”

The interior designer recently collaborated with his wife singer Vasuda Sharma for his debut single ‘Sang Tere’ which was recently released. Written and composed by Vasuda, the love song captures the essence of a deep and ever-lasting connection between two people. The song narrates the joy of experiencing life’s most precious moments like watching the sun rise and witnessing it set with the love of your one’s life beside them.

Prod him what made him come up with a debut single, Rupin admits singing is his passion which “resonates very closely with me”.

“It’s never or never will be a profession. I don’t even think I am remotely trained to sing professionally. I’ve been practicing and designing for films for the past 14 years. I’ve been fortunate to be collaborating with the best of our industry’s filmmakers. I owe this journey to my wife who is the best I know in this business,” shared Rupin.

On his experience, Rupin recollected how Vasuda is “very strict when it comes to her craft”. “She wants things to be exactly the way she has imagined. I felt great collaborating with her because I for once never felt that I was new to this. She treated me exactly like how I have seen her work with other professional singers and musicians. It speaks a lot about how you value your fellow musicians and singers,” Rupin mentioned.

What’s next? As he is prepping to scout locations for Don 3, gearing up for his film Khel Khel Mei, he shared that he is waiting to build the stage for Isha Foundation’s 2024 Mahashivratri event.
