Although Dussehra is not officially part of the Navratri or Durga Puja festivities, it is intrinsically linked to them. This is because Dussehra follows the day when idols of Goddess Durga are immersed in holy water bodies.

The term ‘Dussehra’ itself signifies the defeat of the ten-headed King Ravana of Lanka, symbolizing the eradication of ten sins. Some of the rituals associated with Dussehra are intended to purge individuals of their ten human weaknesses and negative qualities. Lord Ram and Goddess Aparajita are among the most revered deities worshipped during this festival.

Dussehra or Vijayadashami are observed as mandatory public holidays in India, leading to the closure of all government offices nationwide. It is also a designated bank holiday, resulting in the closure of all public and private banks, allowing people to immerse themselves fully in the festivities and celebrations.
