India will showcase its alternative holistic system of medicine at the 27th annual convention of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) to be held this week. A high level team of government officials, academicians and representatives from the health sector led by B Anand,Joint Secretary at the Department of AYUSH,Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be representing the country at the five-day convention beginning June 10 in Orlando,Florida. Among other members of the Indian delegation include Rama Jayasunder,Associate Professor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and Larry Walker,Director National Centre for Natural Products Research and Professor Department of Pharmacology,University of Mississippi. Under the banner of Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, other members of the delegation include Rajen Ghadiok,Director,Medical Operation Groups,Fortis Healthcare Ltd and Suman Chatterjee,Under Secretary,Department of AYUSH,Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. By using the AAPI platform, the Indian delegation is looking at expansion of India's alternative system of medicine in the United States. With a large number of doctors of Indian origin in the US,members of the Indian delegation says it does not need much of an effort to convince the Indian doctors about the benefits of India's alternative system of medicine. Although there have been visits by the Indian Health Minister to AAPI Convention in the past and those of other officials, this is for the first time a serious and sustained effort is being made by FICCI in this regard. The introduction of the holistic system of medicine and wellness,at the AAPI convention would help a long way in carving a niche for itself in the US in the coming years. As part of its initiative, members of the Indian delegation would be making presentations and talking to the representatives of the US companies and Indian doctors so as to make a way towards introducing alternative system of medicine in India.
