Bigg Boss OTT 3 contestant Poulomi Das reveals she suffered ‘brain hemorrhage’ in October 2022: ‘Chalti phirti ladki…’
The Naagin 6 actor further recalled that she "couldn't recognise people" during the health scare.

Bigg Boss OTT 3 contestant Poulomi Das recently opened up about suffering a brain hemorrhage in October 2022, which “happened all of a sudden.” “I have no idea how it happened. Right before that, I got engaged. I was very happy. I returned to Kolkata and celebrated Durga Puja with my family after six years. I came back. All of a sudden, I was having a massive headache. I called my mother, who said it may be because I was not properly resting. On the next morning, I was literally screaming in pain. I was on the floor. My brother came, and I was admitted. No one could understand that chalti phirti ladki ko brain hemorrhage hogaya (No one could understand that a well-appearing girl could suffer brain hemorrhage),” Das told actor and host Rohit Roy on his Unstoppable podcast.
The Naagin 6 actor further noted that she “couldn’t recognise people” during the health scare.
“I could only recognise my brother and another friend of mine. Thankfully, they didn’t have to do any surgery. According to the doctors, the left side of my brain was storing blood and water as there was a crack. Don’t know when it happened. I was on 18 medicines a day for a year. All good now. I don’t have the memory of those 2-3 months even now. I have no memory of what I am telling you right now as I got to know later on from my family and friends,” added Das.
Calling her recovery no less than a “surprise” for the doctors, she said: “What I went through is still fine. What my parents and family went through was horrible. I was like a vegetable. I used to be fed, and then I used to sleep off. I used to sleep for 18-19 hours owing to those heavy high-dose medicines.”
Explaining the condition, Dr Pankaj Agarwal, head of department of neurology, Gleneagles Hospital Parel Mumbai, said that brain hemorrhage is a medical emergency that can become life-threatening if overlooked. “It is a medical condition where bleeding occurs in or around the brain. This bleeding can be due to a ruptured blood vessel. Various factors can be the contributor. This can include factors like high blood pressure, severe head injuries, aneurysms (weakened blood vessels), substance abuse, too much alcohol consumption, and conditions like blood disorders,” said Dr Agarwal.
If someone from your family has experienced a brain hemorrhage, you may be at higher risk, making it crucial to take precautions, urged Dr Agarwal.

“One can experience a range of symptoms such as sudden severe headache, weakness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, or loss of consciousness. The intensity and severity of these symptoms may vary from person to person depending on their condition and the location of the bleeding,” said Dr Agarwal.
What does recovery look like?
According to Dr Agarwal, the recovery phase may be different for everyone. “Your recovery phase may include certain medications to reduce the swelling in your brain and long-term rehabilitation significantly. The long-term rehabilitation plan may include physiotherapy, occupational, and speech therapy. These therapies can help support and regain normal daily functions like speaking, walking, or even dressing yourself, which can be disrupted after the hemorrhage,” said Dr. Agarwal, adding that some people can recover fully. In contrast, others “may experience numerous challenges.”
Awareness of the risk factors and the symptoms can help manage the situation promptly and lead to timely medical intervention. “This can help improve outcomes and prevent any further complications,” said Dr Agarwal.
