Also known as Gurpurab or Guru Nanak Prakash Utsav, Guru Nanak Jayanti is a highly revered and sacred festival for the Sikh community.
According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Guru Nanak Jayanti is observed on a full moon day in the month of Kartik (October-November).
Sikhs worldwide commemorate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary. He was born in Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, now known as Nanaka Sahib in Lahore, Pakistan, on this day in 1469.
This year marks his 556th birth anniversary and will be celebrated on November 5, 2025, i.e., a Wednesday.
According to Drik Panchang, the full moon day will begin at 10:36 PM on November 4, 2025, and end at 6:48 PM on November 5, 2025.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most significant festivals of Sikhism, which commemorates the birth of Guru Nanak and his emphasis on his teachings, such as honesty, equality, selfless service, and loyalty to one God.
The celebrations start two days before Guru Nanak Jayanti with Akhand Path, a forty-eight-hour non-stop reading of the Guru Granth Sahib (the holy book of the Sikhs), in the Gurudwaras.

A procession called Nagarkirtan takes place one day prior, which is led by the Panj Pyaras (Five Beloved Ones), with leaders sharing the message of Guru Nanak while devotees sing hymns.
On the main day, Prabhat Pheris, or early morning processions, begin at the Gurudwara, with devotees singing hymns and reciting katha. Following this is langar, a community meal arranged by volunteers at Gurudwaras.
