Sai Tamhankar, a proud Marathi mulgi, has an insatiable love for authentic Maharashtrian cuisine, a passion that reignited during the recently concluded Ganesh Mahotsav. Appearing on the food platform Curly Tales‘ ‘Tere Gully Mein’ show, the actor shared where would she recommend eating in her hometown, Sangli. “I would take you to my college first. I would love for you to eat Sambaji bhel. There’s a famous person called Samba from Sangli. It’s his fifth or sixth generation which has been in this bhel business. Trust me, I have not had bhel like Samba’s anywhere in the world,” Sai said.

She would also like you to try the eatery’s famed masala Thumbs Up. “They put some sort of masala on Thumbs Up. It has chaat masala but I have not figured out the other 2-3 masalas they use to make Masala Thumbs Up. It tastes amazing,” she added.

When in Sangli, Sai wants you to try some delectable items prepared by her mother. “My mother is a great cook so you’ll get to eat some amazing Maharashtrian specialities like dadpe pohe, sabudana khichdi, etc,” she said.

Sai also opened up about how cooking happened to her. “When you have to do something and when you are in a situation where you have to do something for survival, you do it. For me, cooking started like that.”

Sharing that she finds “great similarity between cooking and acting”, the actor added, “I feel it’s that moment’s truth. The sabzi you prepared today may not turn out to taste the same tomorrow. It’s like different takes while acting; every next take will be different. I feel both are passion-driven jobs.”

While it may surprise many, one of Sai’s favourite vegetables is karela, and the actor loves devouring it and cooking it.

In the food video, she relished batata wada, alu vadi, kothimbir vadi, thalipeeth and some kharvas as a sweet dish. Sai also tried her hand at making ukdiche modak and aced it in the first go!
