Instagram is currently inundated with home and property videos, as content creators ask people to show them their homes. One such video of a hobbit home owned by a mom and daughter duo has been going viral on the Internet.
“We’re going into the land; it’s a hobbit home,” says the mom as she takes us inside the unique underground home on the outskirts of Mumbai. It has stunning views of Machindragad and Gorakhgad.

We step into a big living room decorated with blue accents. “Everyone likes to get here together and chill,” says the mom. Then we go to an open-plan kitchen decorated in blues and browns, keeping the aesthetic earthy and natural.
There’s a rock with its home under the kitchen island. “This was embedded in the land; it’s natural,” the mom explains, adding that they decided to keep it on purpose.
According to the owner, there are little potholes all over the house for the lights to come in, along with mushroom-like decorations, which the owner laughingly says are her “personal dinner set.”
“The master bedroom maintains the curvilinear lines, even the headboard is mosaic with a rounded edge. Everything is rounded,” she adds. This has been done to keep it more natural and make it look like the construction has been done with the flow of the Earth.
“In the master bathroom, we wanted to keep the natural feel,” she says about the attached bathroom. So they’ve let rocks sit in here, too, and constructed the bathroom around them.
The bedrooms are spacious and bright, with natural light coming through the curved windows and skylights.
There’s a pool with a beautiful infinity view of the mountains. They also have a garden, which is actually the roof of the house. The garden has stump-like seats, which also let natural light into the house.
“I’ve always wanted to be very close to nature. For miles, you can’t see anything except the mountains. So, the home is called Asanja. My husband is a Sindhi and I’m a Sikh. Asanjo in Sindhi means ours, and sanjha in Punjabi means for everybody. Although this property is ours, I’d like everybody to be a part of it,” the owner says.
True to her words, the property is also listed for rent on different travel sites.
