Aspirants of various competitive examinations conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) are protesting in front of its Prayagraj office on Monday. The reason is their demand to conduct the RO-ARO and the PCS preliminary examinations on the same date. The UPPSC had last week announced that the Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer (RO-ARO) preliminary examination would be held in three shifts on December 22 and 23. The UPPCS Provincial Civil Service (PCS) preliminary examination will be held in two shifts on December 7 and 8. Since then aspirants have raised concern over conducting the exams in two shifts. Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Abhishek Bharti told reporters, "The aspirants and students have been requested to go to the designated dharna spot in the church area under the Civil Lines police station to stage their protest in a peaceful and democratic manner. Their point of view will be conveyed to the higher officials." "Many students have already gone there, but some of them are still protesting in front of the commission office," the DCP said. The Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday, in a statement, said, that he supports the candidates. Explaining the logic behind their calls for a protest, UPPSC aspirant Ramakant Yadav said that conducting the examinations on multiple days was against the rules. One aspirant said that if the commission did not change its decision, they would be forced to start a protest from Monday. Meanwhile, BPSC 70th CCE Prelims will be held on December 13, 2024 and many candidates appear for these exams. -With inputs from PTI
