Zubeen passed away on September 19 in Singapore while swimming. Two autopsies were conducted since his death — one in Singapore and the other in Assam. Both procedures could not reveal any foul play directly related to the singer’s death.
However, the circumstances leading up to his death remain shrouded in mystery and many questions around the unfortunate event remain unanswered.
Singer Zubeen Garg was in Singapore to perform at the North East India Festival.

Garg is believed to have lost consciousness while swimming during the yacht outing in Singapore and was declared dead after he was taken to Singapore General Hospital. The death certificates issued by Singapore authorities state that the cause of death was “drowning”.
The commission will establish the sequence of events that led to Zubeen’s death and probe if there was any foul play or lapses by any individual or authority.
So far, four arrests have been made — Singapore Northeast Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma, and two musicians from Zubeen’s band, Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta.
The musician duo were on the yatch when Zubeen Garg died.
An Assam Police SIT is also probing the murder charges against Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sharma, DIG CID Special DGP M P Gupta, who is heading the team, said.
