Two days after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that a new police station would come up at the site of the demolished madrasa and mosque in Haldwani, the Nainital Police Tuesday opened a temporary police outpost at the site.

Talking to the media in Haldwani, Nainital SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena said a proposal for construction of a police station at the site is also being sent to the government. In a symbolic gesture, the police outpost was inaugurated by two women sub-inspectors injured during the violence.

“In view of the violent incident that took place in Banbhoolpura, and in compliance with the announcement made by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for opening of a new police station, Nainital Police has taken immediate action on the said encroachment site and a police post was set up within 24 hours of the announcement,” said Meena.
