(Express Archives) After taking over as Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs on Tuesday, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar highlighted the need to address urban flooding, deliver 1 crore new houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban and complete Metro projects on time.
Soon after taking charge, Khattar held a nearly three-hour review meeting with senior officers of the Ministry. The officials made presentations regarding the various Missions of the Ministry, a Ministry statement said.
Khattar asked the officials to plan large-scale cleanliness and “waste-to-wealth” campaigns. Preventing urban flooding was also discussed during the meeting. Ministry spokesperson Rajeev Jain said the Minister would soon review the implementation of the Ministry’s schemes on the state-level.
He said the Ministry would redouble its efforts to make sure Metro projects are completed on time, the statement said. Referring to the Cabinet’s decision on Monday to approve additional houses under PMAY-U, he said the announcement of 1 crore houses would be a priority of the Ministry.
