THE BJP government in the state on Tuesday issued directives to all district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31 as National Integration Day.

A letter to DMs and SPs from additional chief secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi said the birth anniversary of Patel would be celebrated as ‘Rashtriya Akhandta Diwas’.

“Apart from Iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s message, a photograph of Patel is attached with this letter. This photograph and the message must be put up at all police stations, police offices and police lines. This should be done so that policemen and the common public can take inspiration from the message,” said a statement.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will flag off the ‘Run for Unity’ on October 31 to mark Patel’s birth anniversary, a senior state government officer said.

In a statement, Director, Information, (UP government) Shishir said the run would start from the statue of Patel located near GPO Hazratganj and culminate at K D Singh Babu Stadium, Lucknow.

Similar ‘Run for Unity’ events would be organised in all districts of the state, he said.
