Tripura extends school holiday as heatwave continues

The Tripura government on Sunday extended school holiday for three more days owing to the prevailing heatwave in the state.

In a notification, the school education department said, “In continuation of the earlier Memo… dated 23.04.2024, due to perpetuation of scorching heat wave throughout the state, it has been decided that all the Government & Government Aided Schools under Education (School) Department, Govt. of Tripura, Schools under TTAADC and Privately Managed Schools will remain closed for three more days w.e.f. 29/04/2024 to 01/05/2024.”

The state government had earlier declared a holiday in all schools for four days starting April 24 to provide respite to children from the ongoing heat spell.

The notification had also advised people against going out in the Sun and to stay hydrated.

The advisory further asked farmers to provide proper shelter and ventilation to animals, especially during afternoon hours.

As per the weather department, the maximum and minimum temperatures in the state for the next 24 hours will be 38 and 26 degree Celsius, respectively.

Last year, the highest temperature in Tripura during the summer months was 41 degree Celsius.
