The Tripura government has issued 41,812 unique identity cards for specially-abled persons through the eight District Disability Rehabilitation Centres in the state, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said on Saturday.
Addressing a program held at the Muktadhara auditorium in Agartala, the chief minister said, “Our government is committed to 100 per cent identification of Divyang persons in all the districts to bring them under social pension schemes. We are also committed to involving them in different productive activities to promote self-reliance.”
Highlighting different welfare schemes, CM Saha said the state provides a total of 30 different types of social pensions. The annual expenditure of the state for these pensions is around Rs 343.52 crore.
Specially-abled sportspersons were also felicitated during Saturday’s program.
At present, a total of 19,582 specially-abled persons enrolled under the Social Welfare and Social Education department receive a monthly pension of Rs 2,000.
A total of 891 intellectually disabled persons have also been identified to receive a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 each under a new scheme that would come into effect from October.
