/X)The Telangana government is all set with a Rs 2,324-crore project to upgrade 65 of its Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) to meet the growing needs of industries.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for an ATC at the ITI in Hyderabad’s Mallepally. Reddy said that the ATCs will hone the skills of the youth with the latest Industry 4.0 technology, industry-ready courseware, and trainers. The CM said he wants to promote Telangana as a destination for skilled, employable youth.
The government has signed a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) to upgrade the 65 ITIs.
The ATCs aim to also serve aspiring entrepreneurs in small, medium and large scale industries. They will extend their services to Polytechnic and Engineering students in the future.
In these ITIs, modern, advanced equipment and technology will be installed in the ATCs, and relevant training will be provided. Officials said that the collaboration with Tata Technologies will enable the government to “modernise” the ITIs, which will now serve as Skill Development Centres. The centres will offer eight long-term courses and 23 short-term courses.
TTL has already employed 130 experts to impart training for youth in ATCs. Officials said that 5,860 students are being trained in six types of long-term courses every year. Training in short-term courses will be offered to 31,200 people this year, while in the past 10 years, only 1.5 lakh people collectively have been trained. The goal is to train four lakh people in the next 10 years.
The state government is contributing Rs 307.96 crore (13.26 per cent) to the project, while TTL’s share is Rs.2016.25 crore (86.74 per cent). TTL will reportedly also offer job opportunities to those trained in various courses in the ATCs.
