Top officials from security forces – CRPF, SSB, BSF, ITBP and special commando forces – are also attending the workshop. Das also said that demonetisation has hit the naxals hard, as they were not able to implement their nefarious designs against the security forces. He also referred to peace in Jammu and Kashmir after demonetisation, saying the extremists were finding it difficult to operate. K Vijay Kumar, special security advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs who also attended the conference, advised the officials to ensure that the forces merged well with the local populace in order to gain their support.

Lauding Jharkhand’s efforts in anti-naxal operations, Kumar said that the personnel should respect the local traditions and take initiatives for bringing development in those places.

During the workshop, the officials from 10 states – Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal – discussed ways to share intelligence and make coordinated efforts in curbing naxal movements. They also discussed use of media and social media, besides technology in dealing with naxals. Various other issues, including case studies of successful operations by security forces, will also be discussed over the next two days.
