SP releases 1st list of 16 candidates for Lok Sabha polls, Dimple Yadav to contest from UP’s Mainpuri

Mainpuri is the stronghold of the Yadav family, and has been represented by former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) Tuesday announced the first list of 16 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled in the next few months.

Dimple Yadav, current SP MP from Mainpuri and wife of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, will be contesting from the seat again. Mainpuri is the stronghold of the Yadav family, and the constituency has been represented by former UP CM and Dimple’s father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav in the past.

Sitting Sambhal MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq will also be contesting from the seat again. Former UP cabinet minister Ravidas Mehrotra will be contesting from the state capital Lucknow. Mehrotra is currently the sitting MLA from Lucknow Central constituency.

Akshay Yadav, son of senior SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, has been named as the candidate from Firozabad, while Dharmendra Yadav fielded from Budaun parliamentary constituency.

Some more names from the list include Akshay Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav. Akshay, son of Ram Gopal Yadav (Mulayam’s cousin), will be contesting from Firozabad constituency. Dharmendra, Mulayam’s nephew, will be contesting from the Badaun constituency, from which he was elected in the 2014 general elections.
