Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in his weekly round of interaction with farmers on Tuesday, highlighted the damaging effect on soil caused by the excessive use of pesticides.
He discussed issues such as high cost of cultivation, non-lucrative prices for the produce, crops getting destroyed in waterlogging and making available good seeds and pesticides to farmers.
The second round of interaction was held at Pusa complex in New Delhi in which farmers and farmers’ union leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi participated.
Detailed discussions on issues related to Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Kisan Credit Card were held, while suggestions were made to get rid of contaminated water coming from factories and on ways to replace defunct electricity transformers without delay, said a source.

The suggestions related to state governments would be forwarded to the respective states while the Central government officials would work on finding solutions to the farmers’ problems, the source said.
During the meeting, the farmers raised many “practical problems”, and the solutions to them could result in a 10-20 per cent increase in farmers’ income, said an officer.
