‘Uski fitrat hai mukar jaane ki’: Shashi Tharoor’s jibe at Pakistan over border violations

Prior to the ceasefire while the two countries were engaged in fierce confrontation, Tharoor had said that Pakistan “would know better than to escalate” attacks. This was in reference to India’s “measured and non-escalatory” Operation Sindoor that targeted terror sites in Pakistan as a one-off retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

“I think India’s position and signalling has remained consistent. If you don’t escalate, we will not escalate. We are not the ones creating a war. That is a very consistent message,” he had said in an interview with The Indian Express.

On Saturday night, firings and drone sightings were reported in the border areas — from Srinagar and Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir to Barmer in Rajasthan and Kutch in Gujarat.

Soon after, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in a media briefing, called upon Pakistan “to take appropriate steps to address these violations”, adding that the Indian armed forces were giving an appropriate and adequate response.
